How famous is Manga in Japan and around the world? Why are people crazy about it? How hard is it to make? Manga research? What’s that? What do you think about these questions? This presentation will give you some insights about the following three entry points: fandom, creation and research. Melding personal experience and technical knowledge, the presenter will give you a broader view of manga, which has become an unforgettable part of modern Japanese culture.
Sookyung YOO

Researcher at International Manga Research Center of Kyoto Seika University (KSU), Manga instructor at KSU, Freelance manga artist, Manga translator. Born in South Korea. Has been interested in writing and drawing from her youth and started to draw manga to do them simultaneously.
Studied manga and manhwa (Korean) in Korea Animation High School and at Kyoto Seika University (2004-2014). Ph.D in Arts (manga). Main research themes are visual expression of manga and manga for women.
Realized the influential power of Japanese manga while staying in France and Canada for studies and is now focusing on manga from international perspectives as well.
