I to Eye: The Latest Solo Exhibition by Chiharu Shiota

Chiharu Shiota - I to Eye

Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka

September 14 - December 1, 2024

Internationally renowned contemporary artist and Kyoto Seika University alum Chiharu Shiota will be holding a solo exhibition entitled I to Eye at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka from September 14th to December 1st.

Shiota graduated from Kyoto Seika University’s Oil Painting Course in 1996. She is currently based in Berlin where she produces work for a variety of solo shows around the world and frequently participates in international art festivals. In 2015, she was selected to represent Japan at the 56th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition. Through a range of material and technical approaches, Shiota addresses fundamental human subjects such as life and death, existence, and memory.

The recent global pandemic brought with it an inescapable awareness of the connections we share with others. This latest solo exhibition examines these connections through three aspects: I, eye, and ai (“love” in Japanese). While Shiota’s world-famous installation work makes up the core of this exhibition, attendees will also have an opportunity to experience other aspects of her artistic practice, including paintings, drawings, sculpture, and video. As a way to enhance the exhibition’s theme of connections, Shiota solicited text-based messages from the general public which were then used to create the installation work for this show.

Please see the museum website for further details. This is one exhibition you won’t want to miss!
