FIT Manga & Anime Experience in Japan + Kyoto Inspiration

Kyoto Seika University welcomes 16 students and 2 professors from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York

Manga studies

The group visited Japan as part of an FIT Illustration program to study manga and Japanese culture. During their time on campus, FIT students gained an in-depth understanding of manga history and techniques by attending lectures and workshops taught by Kyoto Seika University faculty, as well as through a research trip to the Kyoto International Manga Museum, a joint venture between our university and Kyoto city.

The group’s presence on campus also brought numerous benefits to Kyoto Seika students, including opportunities to observe first-hand the way FIT critiques are conducted, and interact and build connections during lunchtime meetups and information sessions.

Design English x FIT

There was palpable excitement when FIT students joined Kyoto Seika’s Design English class. Although the students had never met each other before, sharing their work and learning about student life in their respective countries created the perfect conditions for highly energetic, rewarding conversations.

Through our FIT visitors’ time in Kyoto, students from both universities gained experiences and forged friendships that will surely continue to influence their artistic careers for many years to come.

An experiential program encompassing Japanese popular culture and traditional arts will be available for university students and graduates through our KYOTO INSPIRATION program beginning in the summer of 2025.
